Baldwin City, KS--Saturday night, #21 Baker University kicked off its second season of wrestling with a dominating 41-9 drubbing of Calumet College. The wresting, as one would expect at this time of the year was a bit sloppy, but the excitement and effort were at mid-season levels.
Prior the the meet, I was able to talk to two wrestlers that many Leopard fans might remember from their high school careers. Cody Hanel, 1x State Champ of Beloit, is a 184# for Baker U and Levi Schnider a 1X Runner-up from Ellsworth will be wrestling 149# for Colby CC. Osborne 3X Champ Danny Floyd walked across they gym with his team Northwest Tech., but I was unable to meet up with him. It was nice to see wrestlers from our area moving on to the next level.
Sunday, the Wildcats will be hosting the 2nd Annual Dan Harris Open with teams from the Midwest and many different levels (NJCAA, NAIA, NCAA DII).
