ONAGA, KS – For the second week, the Lincoln wrestling team was able to come home with team honors by capturing 3rd place at the Onaga Classic. Lincoln had six wrestlers completing in the varsity tournament and four wrestling in the junior varsity tournament. "Being able to take the whole team to one location for a varsity and jv tournament is great, with only two coaches it would be very difficult for us to split the squad to attend different tournaments", stated head coach Nate Naasz.
Lincoln had four varsity placers while the jv team placed all four of their entrees. Naasz said, "It was great watching our kids come and compete this well and place 3rd out of 16 teams with only six wrestlers. We had kids step up and go for bonus points late in the day to help keep us in contention for a team trophy. If we were healthy, I don't believe we would have had any trouble winning the tournament. Hopefully we will get back to full strength in a week or two."
Lincoln was the smallest school entered in the contest that had schools ranging in size from 1A-4A.
Lincoln will be in action twice at home this coming week with duals on Thursday against Beloit and Russell starting at 5:30 pm, and on Saturday will host Chapman, Smoky Valley, Plainville, Osborne, and Ellsworth in a round robin that begins @ 9:30 am. The Fort Hays State University Cheerleaders will perform on Thursday before the Duals at approximately 5:20pm. The FHSU Squad is coached by Nic Naasz, brother of Lincoln Head Coach Nate Naasz.
