HOISINGTON, KS--The Lincoln wrestling team headed to Hoisington on Friday and Saturday to compete in the 321A Hosington Regional. It was a successful trip as Seth Suelter (285) qualified for his third trip to state by finishing as the runnerp-up. Suelter's sophomore and junior years he placed third to qualify. Joining him in Hays will be junior Kevin Street (135) who was able to place third. "It was great to have two more kids punch their tickets to state, our kids definatley understood the gravity of the situation and wrestled at a very high level throughout the tournament" said Coach Naasz.
The regional had a fresh look to it this year with many Southwest Kansas schools attending, such as Holcomb, Meade, Cimmaron, and Sublette to name a few. When asked about the makeup of the tournament Naasz replied, "It made for a unique seed meeting. I have never been in one that was that quite or went that fast (one hour), nobody had any head to head or common opponent matchups to help divide the kids up. Our kids did a good job of just coming out and wrestling hard no matter where thier opponent was from."
This coming weekend, Suelter and Street, will compete in the 321A State tourament at Busch-Gross Memorial Colisieum on the campus of Fort Hays State University. Seth will wrestle Goodland wrestler Jay Cotter, a senior with a 24-6 record. Cotter placed third in the Norton regional. Street will battle Kale Newell a junior from Smith Center who has a 28-6 record and finished as the Norton regional runner-up. First round action will begin at 10 am on Friday and Smoky Hills Public Television will have live coverage starting at 1:30 pm.
