Future Meets Present

Feb. 11, 2010

LINCOLN, KS--Thursday night was a night of high emotion as the three leopard Seniors stepped out in front of the home crowd one last time.  CJ Wilson, Mark Livesay, and Seth Suelter all had a hand in helping the team go 2-0 on the night in dual wins over Stafford High School and St. John's Military School.  Even though Wilson and Livesay have season ending injuries, they were able to step onto the mat one last time and take forfeits as the other teams did not send a wrestler to the mat to compete at thier weight.  "I was so glad that CJ and Mark were able to get out on the mat one final time even if they were unable to compete.  Both of them have dealt with a lot of adversity and it was really nice for them to put a singlet on one last time here at home, but man was it emotional and I just wish Seth would have been able to have a match but both teams were open.  John (Coach Gardner) and I have been blessed to have these boys the past four years and we are really excited to see what kind of men they grow into" said Coach Naasz when asked about the seniors.

The night got started with the Lincoln Co. Kids Club being recognized prior to the dual.  The team is coached by Ryan Batchman, former LHS wrestler and assistant coach.  After they were applauded by the croud, the kids club joined the varsity leopards on the team bench for both duals.

When reflecting on the night, Coach Naasz said, "It was awesome to have the past (seniors) meet the future (kids club) tonight.  I think it is really important that wrestling in Lincoln feel like a family and that includes the young kids.  They are the future of the program and it was awesome to have them witness senior night and two really big dual wins from our team bench."
